Brookdale Mall to become Shingle Creek Crossing

It sat empty for months, it's been gutted and now parts of the Brookdale mall are being demolished as development gets underway to create Shingle Creek Crossing.
"You couldn't find a parking place, holy mackerel," recalled Ron Bailey as he talked about how parking at Brookdale used to be. "You'd go around and around during the holidays and you couldn't find a place."
The Gatlin Development Company has plans to bring back some of those customers. The plan is to create less of a mall and more of a main street-feel at the site.
Wal-Mart will be the anchor store with about 15 other smaller stores around it. Parts of the mall will be demolished, while other areas like the food court will stay and add new tenants.
Additionally, Shingle Creek, which was buried and rerouted to make room for the mall will make a return. Under the plan, the creek will be brought back to the surface.
Wal-Mart will likely open next summer and the entire project is expected to be complete within two years.
"You know where we usually go," said Bailey. "Over in Saint Anthony."
He said once Shingle Creek Crossing, is complete he'll definitely be back more often.
