Loren K. Van Der Slik, President

The President of Gatlin Development Company, Loren Van Der Slik, has been with the company since 1993. In his role as president, Mr. Van Der Slik directs marketing, entitlements, design, and project development. Loren also oversees property management and construction while managing the day-to-day operations of the company. Mr. Van Der Slik not only stays in close communication with Mr. Gatlin and Mr. Welsch (the CFO), but also with his team members and staff to assure that everyone understands Mr. Gatlin's direction for the company and to further assure that everyone is aware of the priorities at hand.

While attending college at Western Michigan University in the late seventies, where he studied architecture and business, Mr. Van Der Slik also started working as the in-house draftsman, construction coordinator, and project manager for the Meyer C. Weiner Company, a Michigan-based commercial development company with real estate holdings in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and California. Loren was promoted to vice president in 1983 and transferred to San Diego, California to open their Southern California offices.

Prior to joining Gatlin Development, Mr. Van Der Slik developed several commercial projects with various substantial Southern California developers, one of which was the Newport National Company of Newport Beach, California. While with Newport National in their Carlsbad, California offices, Loren was involved, among other projects, with the planning, leasing and development of an approximately 450,000 square foot power center in Vista, California, anchored by Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. Loren met Frank Gatlin while working on the Vista project, and in 1993 joined Gatlin Development as the vice president of real estate. Loren was promoted to senior vice president in 2000, and subsequently to president in 2006.

During his 30 plus years in the commercial development industry, Loren has developed business relationships with an extensive number of retailers in every category of the industry. Mr. Van Der Slik has been involved in the development of more than twenty of Gatlin's projects. Over the span of his entire career, he has been involved in the development of numerous commercial projects ranging from regional malls; power, neighborhood, and convenience centers; office and industrial buildings; apartment complexes, a major hotel; and mini-storage facilities. Loren has been a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) since 1981.
